Chimney Rock Baptist Church, Lake Lure, NC

Chimney Rock Baptist Church, Lake Lure, North Carolina

Pastor Larry Sanders

The church has a long history within the Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area.  The original church disbanded in 1895.  In 1892, and about two miles down the valley, some people had met in the home of J. M. Whitesides.  As a result of their prayers and work, another church entered into the life of the community.  On July 7, 1892, the Whitesides Valley Baptist Church was organized.  When the plans for the Lake Lure Dam were announced the search of a new home began.  The move was to the present location at 270 Boys Camp Road and renamed Chimney Rock Baptist Church.
Larry Sanders has been the Pastor of the church since November 1996.  He also serves as the volunteer chaplain for the Lake Lure Police Department and, since 1997, has coordinated the sunrise services at Chimney Rock Park.
Pastor Sanders credits the success of the church to a supportive Deacon Ministry, a vibrant music ministry and an active congregation.  He invites you to join them for worship at any or all of their services.  In recent years the church has sponsored a Christian Sportsmen's Fellowship Pig BBQ and Wild Game Banquet to present the gospel to the many outdoor enthusiasts within the Gorge.:

The Church of the Transfiguration, established in 1906, received its name, location, first chapel building, and altar from the Sisters of the Transfiguration and the late Bishop Matthews of New Jersey.
In 1947, after the original building was destroyed by fire, church members built the present beautiful stone-sided structure in typical mountain architectural style.
Church members welcome visitors to share in their liturgical worship and fellowship in Christian faith, service, and ecumenical outreach.  The church is located on Hwy 64/74 A in Bat Cave, North Carolina.
